To deliver groceries & hygiene supplies to over 140 families in crisis that have no mode of transportation on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in personal vehicles & alongside with other volunteers. Dress weather appropriate with active wear & closed toed shoes. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. use personal vehicles & work with other volunteer.
KoKo Kafe’ is a positive, relaxed, and non-intimidating experience that will focus on tutoring Math and Reading/Writing provided by Urban Strategies, Inc. Urban Strategies is part of the Galveston Revitalization Program located at the Cedars at Carver Park, the Villas on the Strand, and the up-and-coming site, The Oleanders at Broadway. Urban Strategies aims to help, guide, and encourage residents to further build upon successes as they follow the organizational vision that “All families are stable and thriving”. In order to serve more students, tutoring sessions will be held at Wright Cuney Recreation Center with snacks provided by USI with program dates following the GISD school calendar. Students in grades 3-12 will be able to enjoy hot cocoa, teas, soft drinks, and light snacks as they receive quality academic support. The Koko Kafe program also seeks to encourage K-12 students to explore STEM. When UTMB students arrive at the rec center, they will check in at the entryway using a sign in binder supplied by the facility's director. Please contact 409-497-1867 if you have any questions.
Volunteers are welcome to read to children in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. Volunteers help with the vegetable gardens and teaching the children to grow their own vegetables.
