ACE Afterschool Program at Oppe Elementary School

Work directly with 3rd and 4th grade children, helping them improve social skills, reading, mathematics, and learning while fulfilling your service-learning requirements. By partnering with ACE, you’ll play a key role in shaping young learners’ futures while gaining valuable experience for your medical career.
You may be helping in a variety of areas from gardening outdoors to tutoring indoors. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes so you can move around easily. Casual dress is fine. Plan to arrive between 3:30pm and 3:45pm. Parents will be picking up their kids around this time so you can expect traffic around the school.
Oppe Elementary is on 2915 81st Street in Galveston. You can park in the playground parking lot that is across the street from Oppe and walk up to the front entrance. Let them know you are there for the ACE after school program for tutoring. Please bring your driver’s license as you may need it to enter the school.

Bridging Learning and Scientific Thinking (BLAST) at Central

Volunteer with BLAST to mentor 7th – 8th grade students through hands-on STEM experiments and research. Medical students work alongside teachers to guide students through experiments, scientific discovery, and research projects.
Volunteers will:
• Lead hands-on science activities
• Mentor students through research projects which are to be presented at the GISD science fair
• Help students prepare for the BLAST Research Symposium at UTMB
• Gain experience in teaching, communication, and community engagement
This is an active, hands-on volunteer opportunity designed for medical students who want to make a meaningful impact in the Galveston community.
