**If you register for this session, please click the link in the registration field below to access orientation materials, timesheet and questionnaire** Our goal is to support Spanish-speaking patients in activities surrounding their St. Vincent’s Clinic appointment. We want to ensure that patients can navigate clinic information surrounding their visit with confidence by providing guidance in their own language. Main tasks students in the front desk can help with:
Make phone calls to confirm attendance of patients to the clinic
Make phone calls to provide patients with test results. (This is a really important need in the clinic, since we were told that sometimes notification of results to Spanish speaking patients gets pushed back until someone who can actually do it shows up to the clinic).
Fill out the “check in” questionnaire for patients arriving for their appointment
Answer any questions the patients may have during their visit
Have someone that guides patients to their room and guides them in the process of scheduling follow ups and any other consultation in other clinics.
SMART Family Literacy Party - This is what we call our family engagement model. It is an informal party atmosphere using theme and party props. Every event includes reading aloud, fresh veggie and fruit platter, and hands-on educational activities. Each family receives three free books. Volunteers are needed to load and unload supplies, setup hands-on stations, and guide activities. Depending upon the skill and interest of volunteers, they are needed to: manage craft supplies like paint and glue; guide the group in following a recipe, such as smoothies or salad; teach how to do a simple kitchen science demonstration or experiment; pass out door prize tickets; greet families, read a book aloud. Not a wheelchair accessible venue. If you have Spanish speaking skills or musical skills please let Liz Turner know, 409-771-4155 and please wear UTMB badge.
